XM accounts for oil trading.
Micro Account
Trades in micro lots (0.01 lots = 1 barrel). 1 cent move = $0.01 per 0.01 lot. Suitable for learning with real money. The spread is wider, but the small lot size keeps losses contained. Not ideal for profit generation but excellent for practicing signal execution on live markets.
Standard Account
The most popular XM account. Trades in standard lots (0.01 min). At 3 cent spread and no commission, total cost per round-trip is ~$6 per lot — competitive among commission-free brokers. For signal trading with OilSniper, this account provides a good balance of cost and simplicity. Recommended for accounts of $200–$2,000.
Ultra Low Account
XM's tightest-spread account for oil. With spreads from 2 cents, the Ultra Low account is the best choice for active signal traders who execute multiple positions per day. No commission on standard lots. At 1 cent = $1.00 per lot, a 2 cent spread costs just $2 round-trip — minimising signal entry slippage.
Set up USOIL on XM.
Open an Ultra Low account
Go to xm.com, click "Open an Account", and select "Ultra Low" as your account type (available for both MT4 and MT5). For oil trading, select MT5 — it has the built-in economic calendar, depth of market, and better charting tools for USOIL. Choose USD as your base currency since oil is quoted in dollars. Verify your identity with a passport or driving licence (usually approved same day).
Fund with your preferred method
XM accepts bank wire, credit/debit cards, Skrill, Neteller, and local payment methods for many regions. The minimum deposit is $5 but we recommend $500+ for oil trading to enable proper position sizing. For oil at 1:500 leverage, $500 gives you roughly 2.5 standard lots of buying power — more than enough for signal-based trading. Card and e-wallet deposits are instant. Bank wires take 2–5 business days.
Add USOIL to your watchlist
In MT5, right-click Market Watch → Show All → scroll to USOIL under Metals or search "oil". Right-click USOIL → Chart Window to open an oil chart. Set your preferred timeframe (H1 for swing trading signals, M15 for intraday). XM's USOIL contract is 100 barrels per standard lot — every 1 cent move = $1.00 per 0.01 lot, or $100 per full lot. The margin requirement for 1 full lot at 1:500 leverage is approximately $140 at $70 oil.
Set position sizing for signals
For XM oil trading with OilSniper signals: use a fixed risk of 1–2% per trade. Example: $1,000 account at 1% risk = $10 per trade. If SL is 30 cents and each cent = $1.00 per 0.01 lot, then 0.03 lots risks $9 (within limit). Adjust your lot size based on the signal's specific SL distance. Set "Allow trading" in MT5 and configure one-click trading for fast signal execution.
OilSniper signals + XM.
When an OilSniper signal arrives, open XM on your phone or desktop, find USOIL, and place a limit order at the signal's entry price with the specified SL and TP levels in cents. XM's mobile MT4/MT5 app lets you execute in under 10 seconds from notification.
XM's Ultra Low spreads (2 cents) mean your execution will be close to the signal's entry level. At $1 per cent per 0.01 lot, you lose just $2 to the spread on entry — keeping more of each signal's profit. Unlike brokers with 5+ cent spreads, XM's tight pricing makes a measurable difference to your bottom line over 20+ trades per month.
